Energy Educators

Energy Educators

The PESA Energy Educators Committee identifies programs with best practices in STEM and energy-specific education and workforce development.  From early childhood education programs to secondary and higher education STEM programs, this committee helps PESA member companies channel member resources and knowledge, promote the industry with an aim to attract new talent and positively influence public opinion.

The Energy Educators oversee PESA’s commitment to the IPAA/PESA Energy Education Center, which has petroleum academies in Houston and Ft. Worth, TX, as well as the first-of-its kind Energy Institute High School. This school is a full magnet high school in the Houston Independent School District dedicated entirely to the development of the geosciences, alternative energy and offshore technology.  The Petroleum Academies and Energy Institute provide students with a multidisciplinary, advanced academic learning experience in science, mathematics and the emerging technology concepts needed to pursue professional training and degrees in engineering, geology, geophysics and global energy management in the oil and natural gas industry.

PESA member companies also participate in the summer extern program with the petroleum academies. Students selected to participate in the extern program spend three weeks with PESA member companies, attending executive meetings, testing equipment, learning about technology, and getting a sense of the industry.

PESA funds stipends for teacher training, student scholarships, and awards to teachers and schools demonstrating educational excellence.

The committee also hosts events in support of the education programs.

For PESA members, there are opportunities to participate as guest lecturers at the Petroleum Academies along with the chance to serve as mentors for the students attending the academies.
